my controversial(?) opinion is San Diego is better in every single way
unless you plan on parking your ass in ONE place in LA, get ready to spend the whole time driving
I only visit LA because my family AND Em's family live there and I simply would not go otherwise
I USED TO SAY SANTA MONICA. but like, the santa monica of 20 years ago, tbh. I went recently and was like, startled by how lame its gotten
I was not aware this was even a debate, I say as an arizonan
i... genuinely hated LA the one (1) time i was there >_> i hear there's good food, but. it was such a nightmare to get anywhere that i sure didn't acquire any of it.
never been to san diego tho
if i could afford to live there I 100% would
san diego, big sur, santa barbara, carmel, laguna
ill never forgive my dad for moving from SD to LA

come up here to SF instead too
HIS LOSS. I would visit so much more...
Sani_Caranza: I do think it's an east coast lack of knowledge of California and just kind of....only knowing LA LMAO

like there are things to do in la?
i would like la more if it wasn't a giant megacity
yeah like I HAVE DONE THINGS I ENJOYED IN LA
and good food is everywhere in socal lbr (or at least everywhere that isn't rural lol )
my AZ perspective is that people go to LA for business. but you so not vacation there.
im from san diego and im always

for ppl to come visit me here
I'm kind of biased for visitation, towards walkable cities
my family is from California's butthole, Visalia and I thank the universe everyday my day never convinced my mom to live there
I MEAN, THE CENTRAL VALLEY IS BEAUTIFUL COUGH
I've only ever been to San Francisco but I enjoyed that. I definitely have zero interest in going to LA
i visited a friend in LA county earlier this month and specifically did not go into LA proper because I did not want to deal with the traffic
even then, driving through LA was the worst part of the trip
I think people also conflate LA city with LA county
Nonvieta: i grew up in a small valley AG town near sacto lol
There are great places to visit in/around LA but LA itself???
terrible to navigate 0/10
But also Hollywood is a mess and I'd never recommend people 'sightsee' in Hollywood LMFAO
Santa Monica is also kinda bogus to me but I enjoy Ventura a lot when we've gone
I hate driving there so much
yeah like, my BEST period of LA was when my dad lived in Santa Monica two decades ago, and I, a child, could walk to the comic book store and the boardwalk whenever I wanted
they had an amazing sushi place I used to go to
but again, being to SM more recently I was like, eh. it's pretty commercialized and there are better beaches
i have visited california 3 times as an east coaster and am going back this summer but I've always had a local buddy to take me through it lmao driving in la is terrible!!!
I tolerate LA the most bc I love Universal Studios too much and have accepted LA as my problem child
I also think East Coasters truly cannot comprehend
The sheer SPRAWL of California cities, specifically LA
But also I come from a shitty city so I am very tolerant
in reverse the fact that you can just go to another state on the east coast is unreal to me
The cities over here are SUPER COMPACT (New York is maybe the only cities that gets kind of gnarly once you start considering the boroughs, but even then, I’m pretty sure LA is WAY bigger in terms of physical area
I mean I guess if you’re a particular kind of person LA can be a very wild and adventurous place but ITS TOO MUCH FOR ME AND I MAKE LITTLE MONEY
im in the outskirts of the bay and you could drive for like 8 hours and still be in CA
Freak things about Californians: a willingness to drive 4 hours on a whim
My dad moved to FL for a bit and I always think of the time i visited him and we just
Drove 2.5 hours EACH WAY from Port St. Lucie to Miami to get some CUBANOS
And came right fucking back
Dude we drove 2 hours just for a Joe’s Crab Shack once
Maybe that’s a California thing, maybe my dad just has ADHD (he does) but no east coaster would fucking ever

YEEHAW

I was looking at this recently and it made me want to throw up and cry
....what's the scale on that.....
can confirm i was in a car yesterday for almost 4 hours and it was just visiting my great aunt on a wednesday
Last time i went, my dad just sprung a trip from Rancho Cucamonga to Visalia on me to visit my grandma and it’s a fucking 4 hour drive
yeah as Californians you're just built used to long drives being a thing you do, not an Event
just gonna casually drive
