um it's usually just based on activity so if you plurk every day (comments to your friends also count) it will go up

once you get to a point where all your perks are unlocked you can just freeze your karma and not worry about it going down

a lot of people freeze at 100.00 on purpose lol but personally i've never bothered trying to control it that way. it's kinda fun tho
