It's an okay game, but it thinks its better than it is.

It also seems really intent on having you want to get the Golden Ending. I can tell that each of the three standard endings have something bad to bring it down

In the Liberty ending, for example, you partner up with the force that invaded and has a "the strong and powerful can dictate the state world." So you defeat the expansionist theocracy who has subjugated a marginalized minority so that's good!

But the divide between the rich and poor continues to get worse and the impoverished will see conditions get worse

Now, that's fine. It's a decent contrast and definitely raises a consideration of what happens when you rule a nation without compassion for those in poor circumstances

However, the three endings are very easy to fall into, and the conditions to get the golden ending requires four VERY distinct key decisions

Your first playthrough will also easily take 40 hours, too, so you have to know what you are doing AND this is during a time when your resources and units aren't very well developed

and I don't think the characters and the themes are as strong to support multiple playthroughs

and it also uses character development systems that encourages grind, which... eh
