So the live group is in a big scary castle/fortress that's kind of eternally on fire, and are trying to get to the top where (presumably) there's an artifact of immense power and incredible importance. And to do so, they need to repair a mechanical lift that ascends a 100 foot shaft riddled with traps.

To manage the ascent, there's a lever that needs to be set to proper positions at each "floor" to deactivate that level's traps.
