Some people are surprised when I say I work with one layer... but yes, i use one for the lineart, other to color (sometimes 2 layers for colors) and the rest are the rough doodle for the idea and a background lmao 
I dont know the magic of rendering or digital tools... I'm very dumb and will never learn
You don't want to see me ten years ago not understanding what a layer was and drawing and painting it all in ONE single layer
it makes sense if you consider that all my computers have exploded after a couple of years
that doesn't make u dumb ur just a traditional artist which is okay
