[fandom discourse] Sometimes I wanna get into a huge long post about how 'when no media literacy' has become a dumbass comeback to people being critical of characters or plot. Trust me. I have the literacy. I understand what's being said. I STILL DONT LIKE IT THOUGH
It comes paired with reducing the qualitative review of a narrative or character into a deified "objectivity"
"well the author is telling this story and this is how they characterise this element of the human psyche, so it must be good"
I understand that. Unfortunately as a living breathing human I have life experiences and that means that expressions can be (AND SHOULD BE) viewed subjectively

i fully understand the intent. the execution is however viewed under a subjective lens and to reduce it to its objective goals is reductive and harmful to the experience of writing

also there's so many people who go "death of the author!!" and then also yell at other people for not respecting the author's intent lmao
