kinda depends on what resources you have access to.

Because the best option before accessing those is the flamarang, made with hellstone.
Unless you really wanna use sticky or normal grenades.

Before hard mode the highest knockback looks to be 8.

Then your best bet is probably the annoying chakram.

I can't even recall master mode being an option way back then. XD Now I just sort of play for funzies.
