the parasite in question is cryptosporidium, and the CDC has pretty thorough information about it. Parasites - Cryptosporidium (also known as "Crypto")...

The top level article does have all the relevant information about how long to boil water and/or what kind of water filters to use, but for anyone wanting additional information, a list of symptoms if you suspect infection, etc., the CDC link there should have additional useful info.
yeah ... this explains what happened to me last week then...

i live on the eastern shore, but several of us were visiting a friend and came back feeling ... rough all last week. so either food poisoning or parasite.
Good thing I only drink bottled/sparkling water already but good to know
