So there is, always will be, that ONE class that just outplays everyone else. Specifically, speaking on PvE terms
Right now the Queen of combat is Woosa. She uses a fan to make it rain~ and strikes people with lightning bolts if they stand under her rainclouds
They nerfed her just a little. Teeeeeeeeeny tiiiiiiiiiiny itsyyyyyyyyy bitsssssyyyyyyyy
And the backlash was so immense the devs were like FINE. We'll just buff everyone else
They usually do the "buff everyone else" rather than nerf the one that somehow got out of hand
But not all buffs are equal
And some classes will be waiting a while it sounds like.
Right now, I'm playing Shai as my main. She is a lean mean support machine. In PvE I have a whopping 4 HEALS and 4 BUFFs + "e" buff (every class has an 'e' buff, it's like a power boost for 30-60 seconds) AAAAAAAAAND 2 terrifying Debuffs
Shai is the weirdest class in BDO
You might think "Oh, there's other supports though. She's not the... only...one... right? Right?"
WRONG. SHE IS THE ONLY SUPPORT lmao
ALL classes are "dps" by 'party setup' standards
All classes deal damage. Some can self-heal. Some can give a party heal (wiz/witch). Some can give short little party buffs (sorc and tamer). But everyone is a dps
Now, with her buffs and debuffs she can compete with the other classes in dps. But if you don't do your buff/debuff rotations. You are attacking with a wet noodle
It's hard to explain if you are coming from a game with dungeon crawling/raids as the main content
We have 1 dungeon but party comp doesn't matter. Of course if you show up to a party with 5 of one class LMAO you will likely regret it. But usually even if there's 2 duplicates it's fine
And having a shai for those rare party effort occasions is the entire point of why I play her lol
There's certain content you can't do without her
ANYWAY whoa this turned into a ramble about Shai
MY POINT IS. Balancing is hard. Shai will likely not get buffed until the very end of this, partially because her capabilities stack onto other players and they have to take that into consideration
Like if her buff abilities got a buff lmao It would just be a group of Chads and that's terrifying
i don't go here to this game but yeah if a class gets a noticeable nerf in an MMO people will go BALLISTIC
LOL okay so there was a different class that got "nerfed into the ground" and it was, indeed, an intense nerf. And that was a week before Woosa's "nerf"
They changed 2 skills for Woosa, barely an edit. And people lost more shit over that then the other class becoming "literally unplayable"
Both are playable! They're FINE but if you only read reddit or the class-specific discords you'd think the world was burning around them
Even though these two classes and their nerfs are on completely different levels
But ya, they might be right in just buffing everyone rather than nerfing a few considering the backlash nerfs can cause whether justified or not
yeah if you overtune something it's generally better to just bring everything else to be more in line with it
numbers sell, people see number go up, they are happy. people see number go down, they get angry
Yeah, that's basically all it is at its core
In BDO we have skill explanations. It's these long paragraphs. But in combat there are no numbers. You just attack until the thing is dead. People base their class abilities on trash loot amounts collected as a way to determine how quickly they can kill things
There are pop ups for "critical hit" and types of attack "air attack", "down attack" and RECENTLY they added "miss" lmao so you know if you are hitting them at all or not. Previously, NO indication
So without physical numbers and people basing capability on trash loot from mobs, it's hard to do a real comparison. Someone can lie about their trash loot for one. Or you might have to pause mid-grind to drink water, or someone isn't tracking their elixir/buff rotations correctly. It's pretty faulty
But in the current situation. Woosa will get 40k trashloot in 1 hour and other classes are doing 26k on average. Maybe 30k if they are adding elixirs and buffs and really know their class
So when the gap is THAT massive, it's much easier to be like

Wait a minute...
