The last page from Batman/Superman World's Finest #21
I'm not really the biggest Kingdom Come fan - great story, but I'm not beholden to it the way some of the fandom is, so I haven't been like LOVING the current arc BUT.
That's a hell of a last page.
Love a lot of characters in that image - always great to see Black Canary, love that Judomaster is like front and center.
I am very curious about the figure in black and yellow above/behind Judomaster, the cat-like figure above them, and the bat-figure above them.
Also, between Diana and Arthur, that's most likely Barbara, yes? Since Kate wasn't around when KC originally debuted and eventual look was based on a design that Ross had initially done for Barbara?
Weird choice to put Donna in her Rebirth look, though.
Earlier in the issue, Dick gets a look that's equal parts Batman Beyond and live-action Chris O'Donnell Robin.
While it's maybe NOT the look I'd want prime continuity Dick wearing...
The bird symbol, the cape. It's really working for me, personally.
it's a nice short cape, too: provides some extra swish, but doesn't cover up The Butt
owls_in_moss: Agreed! It's a very thoughtfully done cape, and honestly, more heroes should wear short capes. Sometimes it just works better.
(needs blue and the finger stripes, though

)
but yes, 100% agreed on Short Capes For Aesthetics
owls_in_moss: Yeah, Dick in red and black is always a choice. I'm willing to let it pass since this is the Kingdom Come universe, but oooof in the New 52 when suddenly everyone but Barbara and Bruce were in black and red was...too much. And too weird.
like, come on, the former Robins don't need to look more alike
The armoured boots are also...a choice. I don't know how I feel about them, especially for someone who's generally as acrobatic as Dick.
needs some color on the bottom. All the red being up on the shoulders and chest makes him look top-heavy
owls_in_moss: I also felt like putting everyone in black-and-red took away from Kate's black-and-red aesthetic, so I was very HOW DARE YOU about it.
they're not Kate's proteges!
I get grumbly whenever the men come for my Batfemmes
Like how a lot of fans want either Tim or Damian to take the name Flamebird.
Also from a design standpoint
...Isn't it interesting how green is always the first colour that goes away from the Batfamily?
I'm not talking as much about Dick going from Robin to Nightwing, because that was a whole new identity, so a visual colour change made sense.
that is an interesting point
But when Tim's costume changed, the green was lost.
When Bette upgraded her Flamebird costume, the green was lost.
Like, how interesting would it be for a future Robin somewhere to take a black-and-green colour scheme instead when they decide to drop a colour?
Give them some independent visual identity
if I recall correctly, green is one of the most eye-catching colors to the human eye
whereas red actually blends into the darkness very well, as long as nobody shines a light directly on you
true, and the yellow is a colour that's found more easily in urban landscapes than green
plus there's your nemesis in green, who's known for biting the Bat-style
Joker, Poison Ivy, etc, take your pic
I mean, I was specifically referring to Ollie, but yeah, them too
I thought the "your" referenced the Batvillains lmao
lmao, no, I meant you personally
(Honestly for that, there was a page in last week's Birds of Prey that was SO PERSONALLY SATISFYING to see unfold.)
(Diana giving Ollie a beating.)
(It's perverse, but I smiled.)
(hell yeah, we love to see it)
Red does seem to be one of the colors that DC wants to go with for the former/current sidekicks though, it's interesting
Dick, Jason, and Tim, obviously; but also Roy and Mia, and Donna (before she went to black and silver), and Garth (who dropped the blue for black)...
heck, nuboot Gar had red fur instead of green
I mean, Red Canary, Emiko as Red Arrow...
Cassie Sandsmark also had that horrible red thing during nuboot
I liked the idea of the costume - the red with Donna's starfield.
But the design of the costume was SO BAD
yeah, that would have been a fun combo. But SO BAD
(Cassie has gotten saddled with some GODAWFUL looks though.)
Rumour has it that she's getting a new look in the current Wonder Woman book.
I hope it's something good and not the Disney Channel Original Monstrosity she got under Bendis
too many colors and too many accessories and not enough tying it together
It was like Wonder Laundry Day
it would have been a cute look for back when she was first starting out, but definitely not now
My personal two favourite looks for Cassie:
I'm also very partial to those! The first more than the second, if only because those pants look like they have better range of motion
Though I hate it when artists take the tunic from the second look and turn it into a crop top
but I do have a soft spot for the "athletic shorts and an over-sized Wonder Woman shirt she sharpied a G onto" look
That is honestly like the best first costume a superhero wannabe sidekick could come up with.
that was peak "I just sprinted out of the house to help before Mom could stop me" aesthetic
And I like how the Young Justice cartoon nodded to it by putting Cassie in like... lululemon-but-make-it-super
(Also, I think that's why I loved Misfit's look in BoP so much, because it was a spiritual successor to that first Wonder Girl look that Cassie had)
(agreed absolutely, loved that for her)
unfortunately DC seems to have trouble maturing that into a viable early-twenties costume
God, Cassie. She had such an incredible character growth/progression
Until Geoff Johns ruined her.
Cassie Sandsmark Deserves Better
I hope that her upcoming redesign is goo
