I'm watching it now and I think the family dynamics are very cute but I can't tell if I should be concerned about stereotypes or anything
I enjoyed this but I don’t want to speak for Latine people
I wish I could find the Twitter thread, but someone compiled all of the reviews by Latino reviewers and the response was pretty universally positive

Ofc I can’t speak for them and I’m sure there were probs some negative ones in there but overall folks seemed to really like it
if you find the thread I would love to see, fey. cheers
boywonder did you see it in theaters or after it came out streaming?
it is such a shame superhero burnout is so real >:[
I saw it at the drive in in Virginia lol
ahh wonderful. I looove drive-in movies
ME TOO I AM SO HYPE THERE IS ONE HERE
We saw The Marvels at the drive in in Concord
I still haven't seen that ... I think once NaNoWriMo is done though I'm going to try to catch it. I want to support my girls!
I will say it's really exasperating that ofc poc stars for comic booky movies are the afterthought, and in classic style, Of Course they're going to be blamed for poor performance when its the overall genre and maybe more diversity earlier could've helped keep shit fresh
but all that rah rah aside I'm really pleasantly surprised by blue beetle so far. if anyone has thoughts on how it compares to the comic boox I'd love to know
xolo maridueña has so much charisma and physical humor talents!!
It’s extremely different from the comic tbh, but as a big ol blue beetle buff, I liked it!! I understand why they made the changes they did and I think they kept its big heart

I did like it though I struggled from the tonal shift of "origin light hearted hijinks" to "how we overcome hardship from a specific poc lens". I wish it had stuck with me better (I loved those comics) and xolo was magnificent but it didn't land an impact on me
wisdombitch how about the kord stuff? I found myself really racking my memory for MoM days but I don't think I played wit yall enough
timmtams do you think its bc of the inevitable devolving into big generic cgi comic book fight, or were the family dynamic content/other elements also not really resonating with you?
could've used some more beautiful/touching lines probably
I teared up at the candle scene but thought it would go a bit further

I think it was the lack of breathing room that made it very hard to process
Kord stuff is completely different! In the comics, he never had a daughter, but Jaime’s connection to the previous blue beetles is done through the first BB’s granddaughter, who helps hook him up (no romance there). The antagonists in the movie are also totally new!
But jaime in comics verse gets to know Ted through his old superhero partners and gets his journal that way which they obviously didn’t wanna muck about with in a standalone movie
I could definitely rattle off a bunch of critiques if I wanted to, but eh... it’s a live action superhero movie lol
