Is G+ in effect merely a Diaspora server beneath, with some small tweaks here and there? (i.e. renaming Aspects as Circles)

Why did Google feel the need to copy it when launching Google Plus? I mean the look and feel and everything. This is very strange...

Now I'm confused. I had never seen Diaspora before in action. It's exactly like Google Plus. But it is from one year yearlier!
