美國官員全力淡化此事，指出此政策只是中國必須讓外資流入的方法之一，但美國企業專家們認為，此事不僅是川普北京行最重要的議題之一，更是外國銀行強化中國基地的重大發展，有助於川普「減少美中貿易逆差」的目標，「川普要是知道，必然會在推特大推一番」，但中國官方卻完全沒告知川普，不僅反映出中國做事的一貫方法，也意外顯示出川普與習近平的關係。
