They werent wrong, the pneumonic plague (deadliest of the plagues) WAS airborne, but it otherwise spread mostly through fleas.

Native cultures changed a lot between 1492 & when the colonizers started record. Many of the changes during this period are assumed as representatives of true Native ways but reflect just a dramatically changing culture. The slave trade, displacement & diseases decimated populations. Many groups seen as consistent tribes were survivors who banded together.
America is built upon slavery and oppression. theres no exaggeration when I say we wouldnt have any of what we have now without systematic discrimination and slavery. Every single thing built in America from ~1590s to the 1890s was built with the hands of enslaved African, Native, Asian workers. There is no USA without POC.
In 1890, quick after more than 500k Black men joined vote in the 1870s, helping elect ~2000 Black men to public office, Mississippi made a literacy test and poll tax that barred Black men from voting as they were given arnd 2$/week & couldnt read due to the education system, resulting in Black voters having to choose between voting & feeding their family.
In the 1600s, White men began importaning White women from england and ireland, forcing them to marry Black men & have children so that the children could be enslaved. It became so common that they had to pass a law in 1661 banning the forced prostitution of white women for slavery.
