Made that Kuma model I had into a VRChat avatar, doesn't have the eye movement or blinking, but I got the mouth flapping at least. The support for texture based animations isn't great. Adding blinking would be easy but any eye tracking stuff I have no idea how I would accomplish.
Slow on and off texture progress, pixel perfect UVs are a nightmare and I am ashamed of what the texture map looks like. But look at this dude, I love him.
Been chipping away at this mech once in a while. I want to do no or very simple lighting, so I'm trying to figure out how to make it look nice in an emissive shader. This is very rough test work.
Ended up picking up Defold, another engine, way more bare bones but also way easier access to GPU nonsense. Had to write lighting myself though so I'm messing around with deferred rendering again. Having fun, next project will be in this for sure.
Got struck by some inspiration for the mech thing, gonna go way more cartoony than I was initially thinking. Got a couple of very fast very not good sketches of some ideas.
Messed with doing the facial expression stuff in blender a bit today. I think I need to try my hand at making concept art for the mech game, because its way easier to make a model based on something than just raw.
Model works well enough I think. The weight painting could probably be better, the setup for face tracking and expressions could be better, but it does work. This has made me much more confident in blender, so mission accomplished.
Model looking good, figured out how to add hair physics too. Next step is texture expression stuff. I might also add more physics to other hair bits later but its fine for now.
