except I heard pickles are easy too, but I've never done them.

cut up the fruit, boil it up for a few minutes with some sugar and lemon juice.

I don't even use pectin (you are supposed to) because I pick mine under ripe for jam and the underripe fruit has enough natural pectin.

you dump it in clean jars, put the lids on, boil it 5 more minutes, let them cool off undisturbed over night.

best jam you ever tasted.

Oooh. I adore homemade jam but I usually have to buy it from the farmers market and it's always pricy. LOL

So I figured there was some big work that went into it.

the first time you buy jars and lids and those metal bands to screw the lids down, and a jar lifter, and a canning funnel and maybe an oversized pot if you don't have one, it is a bit of an investment. Plus if

you don't have free fruit, you need 10 cups of frut for 9, 8 oz jars of jam, and that's like 4 or 5 lbs.

but I do it ever year or so (when the fruit trees produce more than my neighbors and friends and I will eat), so now it's only 2 bucks for the lids and probably a buck worth of sugar
