cut up the fruit, boil it up for a few minutes with some sugar and lemon juice.

I don't even use pectin (you are supposed to) because I pick mine under ripe for jam and the underripe fruit has enough natural pectin.

you dump it in clean jars, put the lids on, boil it 5 more minutes, let them cool off undisturbed over night.

you don't have free fruit, you need 10 cups of frut for 9, 8 oz jars of jam, and that's like 4 or 5 lbs.

but I do it ever year or so (when the fruit trees produce more than my neighbors and friends and I will eat), so now it's only 2 bucks for the lids and probably a buck worth of sugar
